Lights Out on BT Phone Lines

BT have announced that they are switching off the digital ISDN phone network to ?force the migration? of organisations, who have not already done so, to start routing their phone calls over new ?fibre? data links.

Organisations currently making and receiving calls over ISDN telephone lines need to ensure their current telephone system will connect to SIP (Session Internet Protocol) trunk phone lines, routing calls securely through fibre data-links. If not, a wise consideration would be to invest in upgrading their telephone system as this will bring huge benefits. By 2023, BT have stated the UK ISDN infrastructure will no longer be technically supported.

?2,500 Funding Running Out

There has been further announcement about the Gigabit Voucher Scheme as funding has now been lowered to ?2,500.

With significant demand from organisations across the country, the DCMS has reduced the maximum claimable allowance for connection, down from ?3,000. The Government anticipated the ?67m would enable the scheme to run until Q1 2021. However, we forecast the full budget will be fully allocated much sooner, which most likely means many organisations will miss out.
